Our Mission

Hartford Habitat Office - 780 Windsor Street, Hartford, CT"As an expression of our Christian faith, Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity will work with people of diverse faiths and backgrounds to build affordable homes and to provide homeownership opportunities for low income families in the Capital Region.

We will work in partnership with these families and with each other to build a better community in which decent housing is both a matter of conscience and of fact."

Welcome!

We hope you consider getting involved by volunteering, inviting us to speak to your faith organization or place of employment, making a donation or having your company consider sponsoring a house.

Since 1989 and with the hard work and dedication of our volunteers, homeowners and staff we have completed over 185 homes! The growth in our building program has been a blessing for our Habitat homeowners and our community.

About Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity, Inc.

Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity (Hartford Habitat) received its Affiliate Charter in April 1989 and serves the 33 towns of the Capitol Region in central Connecticut. Since 1989, HAHfH has completed 185 homes housing over 700 individuals in greater Hartford. We have focused our building efforts in Hartford and several of the surrounding towns. We have built or renovated a mixture

Although we expect that the majority of our building activity will continue to be in Hartford, we are committed to eliminating inadequate housing in all of the towns in our 33-town region. We have several active high school and college chapters and we are working with other communities to form chapters of this Affiliate in other areas within the Capitol Region that are interested in undertaking Habitat projects.

Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity has committed itself to increasing the number of homes we plan to build in future years. Having been blessed by leaders who were both well grounded and visionary, Hartford Habitat enjoys a favorable reputation both locally and among other affiliates in the northeastern region of the U.S. as well as at Habitat for Humanity International in Americus, Georgia.

Each affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International is primarily and directly responsible for the legal, organizational, fund-raising, family selection and nurturing, financial, and construction aspects of its work. Each of the approximately 2,200 affiliates in the U.S. and 50 other countries are governed by a local board of directors. The affiliate selects homeowner families according to criteria that do not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, ethnicity, or religious preference. Hartford Area Habitat counts among its supporters more than 14,000 volunteers from area foundations, corporations, congregations, civic and professional associations, and schools.
