Jamaira Ocasio

We would first like to give thanks to Habitat for Humanity for the wonderful opportunity and blessing that has been bestowed upon me and my family.

My name is Jamaira and I have been living in Manchester for 12 years. I have been working since I was 18 years old so that I can provide for my three children Neftalio 10, Nisiah 6, and Anthony 3.  I was constantly moving each year from place to place. Finally I had enough and said to myself “I want better for my children and me”. It was time for a change in my life. It was time for me to go back to school and to own my own home. It was time to have a place that I can call my own. It was time for me to set goals and achieve them. I made the decision to go back to college to obtain my nursing degree. I currently attend Goodwin College and I am pleased to say that will graduate July 17, 2010. I am so proud that my children can look at me and see what I have accomplished and what they can achieve if they are focused. I am proud to say that they can look at me and say “mommy did it so can I”.

Becoming a homeowner will give my family more space, a yard for my children to enjoy and grow. Most of all I have the greatest feeling of security and pride. I will be able to provide a home to my children that will stay in our family for generations to come. I will have a sense of independence and that feel wonderful. I would like to give thanks again to Habitat for Humanity for helping me achieve my goal of becoming a homeowner. Thank you for helping make one of my many dreams come true.
