Theresa Sanford

My family consists of myself and my two sons, Brian and Jamel.  We have lived in Bridgeport, CT for 30+ years and during those years of living in the Bridgeport area there seemed to be no opportunities to advance, nothing positive for my children, as well as no decent affordable housing.

After living there for so long we felt that it was time for a change and we wanted a chance to start over again in a positive way with new opportunities. So we decided that we should take a chance and try the Greater Hartford area. I was amazed at what Hartford had to offer and the possibilities that were here for our family.

I was introduced to the Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity home ownership program through CRT’s Supported Housing Program. I am honored and excited to be a part of Hartford Habitat. It is really is great and a wonderful feeling to be working hand by hand, foot by foot, elbows to elbows with some of the most amazing people affiliated with Hartford  Area Habitat and also the prospective homeowners. When looking back on my life I would have never thought or even dreamed that I would own my home and help to build it from the inside out. My family and I send our blessings and many thanks to everyone who has made our dreams possible.

Since moving into my habitat home on my son Brian has completed his degree at Temple University and Jamel is in his sophomore year at Central Connecticut State University where he also works during the summer helping incoming freshmen.

I will begin school this fall for my Associates Degree for Non-Profit Administrative Assistant and will also partner with a new Hartford Habitat prospective family to help them go through the process.
