Event Information

The event has been re-scheduled to June 10-14.

Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity (HAHfH) is planning its tenth annual “Building on Faith Week” as an invitation to people of faith in Greater Hartford to work together constructing Habitat for Humanity houses.

Habitat for Humanity promotes “The Theology of the Hammer”—the idea that service to our neighbors-in-need unites all faith traditions. During Building on Faith Week, Hartford Area Habitat will engage several area congregations to work on several Habitat houses in Hartford and, possibly, in surrounding towns.

Building On Faith Week 2008 is fast approaching!  Don't miss the opportunity to have your faith organization build with us during this event. To participate, please contact Krista Colletta by email at krista@hartfordhabitat.org or by calling 541-2208 x 108.

Snacks and lunch providers are urgently needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What will we be doing?
Volunteers will help build Habitat for Humanity homes. Volunteers might help with framing, roofing, drywall, finish work, deck building, painting or landscaping during Building on Faith Week. We won’t know until a few weeks before BOF week.

Do volunteers need to have skills or previous construction experience?
No. Habitat builds primarily with unskilled volunteers who want to help build affordable housing. Skilled crew leaders will direct your efforts.

What time do we need to show up?
Daily registration is at 7:30 am. Teams will work from 8 am - 4 pm. Food will be provided at a coffee break (mid-morning) and lunch at about 12:30 pm. Site cleanup starts at 3:30.

Is there any cost?
No, but we invite each participant to make a free will donation to help defray the cost of the event. Each participant will receive an event t-shirt and food and beverages. You can bring your donation with you on your work day.

Can I bring a youth group?
Habitat for Humanity welcomes young volunteers who are at least 16, but there are a few restrictions. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by one adult supervisor for every four volunteers. Youth under 18 are restricted from certain dangerous construction activities. We expect to have some age-appropriate activities for youth under 18 during Building on Faith week. Please contact the office for more information.

Do we need to bring our own tools?
We encourage you to bring your own tools, but tools will be provided for those who need them. If you bring your own, be sure they’re clearly identified.

How do I sign up my team?
Call Krista Colletta at the Habitat office - 860-541-2208 ext 108. Each team needs to have 1 contact person to whom directions and other information will be sent.

We especially need weekday teams – weekends tend to fill up quickly.

YOU MUST REGISTER FOR THIS EVENT. NO UNREGISTERED BUILDERS WILL BE ALLOWED.
