Financial Freedom Center

Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity’s building projects are aimed at tackling the unmet need of decent, affordable housing in the Greater Hartford Community. Hartford Habitat's homeownership program serves families that do not qualify for a conventional mortgage.  In the past, our strategic plan focused on number of homes built. In 2014, as part of our new strategic plan, Hartford Habitat moved to a “Families Served” model. Moving to this model allows us to measure our community impact on the number of families we serve, along with the number of homes we build.

In June we will officially open the Financial Freedom Center located at 780 Windsor Street in Hartford.  The Financial Freedom Center will serve as a resource for our adult homeowners, and eventually all of Greater Hartford, by offering workshops on financial literacy, college financial aid and saving plans. The new Financial Freedom Center ensures that we can help more adult members of our community achieve the dream of having a safe and decent place to call "Home”.

September Workshop Schedule
September will offer two classes on various days to accommodate scheduling.  Please visit our registration portal for details.

  • Your Spending, Your Saving and Your Future is a dialogue session that allows students to discuss needs versus wants; the importance of saving for short and long term goals.  Students will have a take home assignment in preparation for the next module on budgeting.
  • Budgeting 101 Budgeting lies at the foundation of every financial plan. It doesn’t matter if you’re living paycheck to paycheck or earning six-figures a year, you need to know where your money is going if you want to have a handle on your finances.
Our pilot program was launched in 2016 with the help of volunteers from Cigna Health in Bloomfield.  We trained over 15 Cigna associates using curriculum from the  National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE).  Over the past year, we held workshops on budgeting, establishing a savings plan, generation wealth and retirement planning.  We expect this center to become a major resource to our Habitat families and the Greater Hartford community.
