Cornell & Heather Johnson
The Johnson family learned about Habitat for Humanity when their youngest daughter Aviana brought home a flyer she received at school. Cornell and Heather were already looking for a home to call their own, and figured there was nothing to lose by applying. Joyfully, they were accepted into the program soon after.
Heather is currently a supervisor with Act Teleservices, while Cornell is a carver at the West Hartford Hometown Buffet. They both grew up in New Britain, and meet each other in high school. They have three beautiful girls who all attend school in the area: Nyraia (11), Taraia (9), and Aviana (3).
Before moving into their Habitat house, the Johnson family lived with Cornell’s
mother and shared one bedroom within the apartment. While they were thankful for a safe place to live, they
were looking forward to moving into their own home with an adequate amount of space.
Upon receiving the blue prints for their home, the girls set to work planning how they would decorate their new rooms.
“I think it is the American dream to have a family and own your own home” Cornell said,
“I am glad that I have the opportunity to make it a reality.”
